Thomas Miles, best known as Nephew Tommy from the syndicated “Steve Harvey Morning Show” is releasing his debut stand-up comedy special Just My Thoughts on DVD and digital download. The special premiered on TV June 19th on Centric.
After graduating from Texas A&M Miles went on the road and began starring in stage plays. This helped him croon his craft. Miles soon learned that actors operate on the same yearly schedule as schoolteachers. A friend suggested he try stand-up comedy as a way of paying the rent during the summer months. Miles did this for 10 years and after he won an amateur-night competition in his native East Texas he knew there was something there.
Miles big break came in 97 when he recieved a call to open up for the legendary Luther Vandross. He was supposed to sub for a week in place of a comedian who toured with him for years. When that week had finished, Mr. Vandross’s tour manager went to Miles and offered him the position for the rest of the tour. Miles ended up touring with Mr. Vandross for three years which took him as far as Europe.
After returning to the states Miles received a call from his uncle comedian Steve Harvey who offered him a co-starring position on his then local radio show based in Los Angeles. Miles saw the wonderful opportunity and immediately flew out to California. It has now been 10 years since Miles began The Steve Harvey Morning Show and he is a key staple of the show. Now the SHMS is syndicated in over 70 markets and have over 7 million listeners. Each morning Miles lights up the show with his cast of colorful characters and zany humor. His prank phone calls, which are a fan favorite, have been compiled to create a top-selling CD. Volume IV releases in November 2010.
Miles has never lost sight of his acting and comedy career and has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, B.E.T.’s Comic View, Sister-Sister, The Parkers and Let’s Stay Together. His films include Last Call, Thug Life and 4 Deep, The Heart Specialist and N-Secure. Miles has received outstanding critical praise for his performances as a stage actor in King Lear, Soldier’s Play, Twelfth Nite, Colored Museum, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and What Ever Happened to Black Love.
Though he enjoys a successful career as an entertainer, Miles has also set his sights on the creation of a broader empire. Morning Show listeners often hear Nephew Tommy refer to his affinity for curvaceous women, and with an eye on designing clothes to make all women feel sexy, comfortable, and confident. He’s teamed up with actor Boris Kodjoe and they are launching Big Luv Apparel catering exclusively to curvy women of all sizes. Big Luv Apparel will hit stores in the spring of 2011.
