MONTREAL, CANADA Now that fellow West Indian, the legendary DJ Whoo Kid has signed on to the project, Canadian artist J Star is ready to drop his latest mixtape: The Plane is My Home: What Did You Expect?
Although he’s a Canadian of Jamaican descent, J Star considers himself a citizen of the world. Hence the title “The Plane is My Home: What Did You Expect?” a nod to where he spends the majority of his time in the air. As far as expectations go, this tape is everything and then some as J Star flexes his lyrical versatility throughout the project. From tracks like “1 Into 2,” an inspirational song about the common man and woman hustling to make better lives for themselves and “Good Morning,” an introspective track that begs the question “Am Late or Running On Time?” to upbeat and carefree songs as the flossy “I’m a Star” or the soon-to-be strip club anthem “Clap Clap Clap” featuring Harlem’s own, Vado.
“As far as the human race goes, everyone has expectations. I chose the name for my mixtapebecause everyone has an expectation of a project even before they hear it, even artwork draws a certain expectation. With the range I’ve collected there is music for everyone on this effort. The only thing I ask is that you pick out what you want,” says J Star.
J Star also recruited one of the baddest chics in the game, Dominican beauty Rosa Acosta, after working with her on a Black Men’s magazine photo shoot in Puerto Rico and Reality Television star Hoopz is also featured as well. Houston’s Screwed Up Click rapper Trae Tha Truth appears on “Play N Burn” as well as Atlanta’s Rocko on “So I Grind” complimented by a video. With four tracks by super producer Boi1Da as well as Johnny Juliano and Face Beats this mixtape is what J Star would call “College dope boi fresh. As the plane prepares DJ Whoo Kid cues us with “This Shit Is Disrespectful, Leggoooooo!”
